What's in a name?
Our pub’s namesake is a character from Finnegan’s Wake, a novel by Irish writer James Joyce. A ballad of Finnegan’s Wake arose in the 1850s in the music-hall tradition of comical Irish songs. In the ballad, the hodcarrier Tim Finnegan, born “with a love for the liquor”, falls from a ladder, breaks his skull, and is thought to be dead. The mourners at his wake become rowdy, and spill whiskey over Finnegan’s corpse, causing him to come back to life and join in the celebrations. Whiskey causes both Finnegan’s fall and his resurrection—whiskey is derived from the Irish phrase uisce beatha meaning “water of life”.
The Pub
A comfortable decor surrounded with the ambiance conducive to a private conversation or fun night out with friends. Adorning the walls of the pub are photographs of the Emerald Isle taken by local Irish artists featuring picturesque landscapes and local Irish landmarks.
The music covers a wide range of genres, from Celtic rock, Traditional Irish Music Sessiuns, Blues, Folk, as well as some good old Rock n’ Roll. The live music selections on Friday and Saturday feature local and national acts on a steady rotation. The Irish Whiskey selection is vast and we carry brands not commonly found in other Irish Pubs. We feature a pair of separate draft systems for Guinness Stout kept at the perfect temperature, perfectly poured and served in the traditional 20 oz glass. We offer nightly dinner specials and our Happy Hour from 11am until 7pm, seven day’s a week.
The Culture
We want to bring Delray Beach a part of not only the Irish theme but also the culture which surrounds pubs in Ireland. The authentic Irish pub is the center of all things in the community and we want to bring this culture to Delray Beach.
